What You'll Need

Skillet
Spatula
Mixing bowl
Measuring spoons

Ingredients

    • For cooking beef if needed
    • Finely chopped
    • Minced
    • 6-inch size

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat. If your ground beef is very lean, add olive oil to the skillet.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 2-3 minutes.
    Stir frequently to prevent burning.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until fully browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Ensure no pink remains in the meat.
  4. Drain excess fat from the skillet if needed.
  5. Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, black pepper, and water to the cooked beef. Stir well to combine.
  6. Simmer the beef mixture over low heat until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
    Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Warm the taco tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for 20-30 seconds until soft and pliable.
Wrap tortillas in a clean cloth to keep warm.
  8. Assemble tacos by spooning the beef mixture onto each tortilla and topping with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, grated cheese, sour cream, and salsa as desired.

Chef's Notes

  • For a spicier taco, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the beef mixture.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef if preferred.
  • Serve with lime wedges for extra zest.
  • Fresh cilantro also makes a great topping if you like it.
