Ingredients

Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add ground beef to the pot and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink.Drain excess fat if desired.
- Stir in chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper until the meat and onions are evenly coated.
- Add canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, and water to the pot. Stir everything to combine.
- Bring the chili to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.Simmering allows flavors to meld.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with additional salt or chili powder if desired. Serve hot.

- For extra heat, add 1 diced jalapeño when cooking the onions.
